We are proud to offer this unique, Red Jade white tea from our wild garden in Yuhi, Sun Moon Lake. This tea is available in extremely limited amounts.
Hongyu(紅玉), also known as "Red Jade" is a hybrid of a Burmese large leaf variety bred with a native, wild growing variety from Taiwan. A cultivar created by the Tea Research and Extension Station (TRES), the governmental body responsible for researching and promoting tea in Taiwan, Red Jade took over five decades to produce. While Red Jade is usually made into black tea, it can also produce a wonderfully vibrant white tea!
The appearance of the tea leaves is rustic, but maintains a beautiful one bud, two leaves picking ratio. When you open the bag you can detect a light aroma of cinnamon, white sugar, and ripe peach. The Tea liquor is a crystal clear, transparent white. The liquor in the cup is highly aromatic and sweet smelling. Notes of white sugar, peaches, pears, and bakers spice are present on the palate. The sweetness is quite intense, almost like someone added fruit pectin to the tea. The tea soup is soft on the palate. This tea can be brewed over 10 times and still produce a wonderful flavor and fragrance.
